Before Meditation Had a Name: What the Vedas Actually Taught
Long before Patañjali systematised yoga, the Vedic texts were already exploring contemplation, disciplined attention and the inward search for truth. Across the Saṃhitās, Brāhmaṇas, Āraṇyakas and Upaniṣads, meditation emerges not as a single technique but as an evolving tradition of dhī, upāsanā, dhyāna and nididhyāsana. Through original Sanskrit verses and translations, this study traces how insight became practice, ritual moved inward and yoga acquired its earliest definitions. It also separates the teachings of the Vedas from ideas that developed centuries later.
